Headshots is an independent guide for people in Australia who need a professional headshot. We publish plain-language guides in three areas: preparing, covering what to wear, hair and make-up, posing and the day itself; uses, covering LinkedIn and corporate profiles, actors and performers, children and teens, and team photos; and hiring, covering choosing a photographer, studio or location shoots, copyright and image rights, and DIY phone headshots. Our free shoot planner turns what you need the photo for into a simple brief.
Why we exist
This web address was once home to a headshot photography studio's website, which later closed. Many people book a headshot only once every few years and aren't sure what to wear, what to ask or what rights they get. We want to bring the essentials together in one place, grounded in official and expert sources, so you can plan with confidence.
How we work
We write every guide in our own words. For rules and requirements, we rely on official and expert sources such as the Australian Copyright Council, the ACCC, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, the eSafety Commissioner, the Australian Passport Office and platform help pages, and we list our sources on each page. We never invent statistics, prices, quotes or testimonials, and we don't rank or recommend photographers or studios.
Independence
Headshots (headshots.com.au) is an independent information site. We are not a photography studio, photographer, talent or casting agency, or booking service, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by any business, platform or organisation named on this site, any previous operator of this domain, or any business with a similar name.
General information only
Our guides are general information and don't take your circumstances into account. They are not legal advice. For copyright or privacy questions about your situation, get professional advice.
