What are usage rights and how does it affect me?

Usage rights are permission from a copyright holder to use something held under copyright. In the case of images we produce for actors and other clients, we normally grant permission for them to be used for their self promotion e.g. their website, casting sites and promotional cards.

What is copyright and how does it affect me?

Under Australian copyright law, photos taken for commercial purposes (such as headshots and portfolios) automatically become the copyright of the photographer. We hold and retain the copyright to all images we produce except for government assignments. For some applications we will enter joint copyright agreements. More information about copyright can be found at: www.copyright.org.au

Be cautious of photographers who make statements such as "you get all the copyright". Unless they supply you with a written agreement stating that they transfer the copyright to you, regardless what they may say to you or have written on their website, they still hold the copyright.

The reality is that most people need usage rights, not copyright in order to promote themselves and use the images.

If you have any questions regarding copyright or usage rights, please ask us prior to your shoot.

We reserve the right to use images we produce for our own promotions such as those you see on our website. Please advise us if you would prefer your images not be used in our promotions. It is not our business practice to sell images to third parties (designers, publishers etc).

I noticed a photo of an actor I would like to test for a part I am casting. How can I contact them?
Please contact us with your inquiry. Your details will be passed onto the actor/model/entertainer. (Work inquiries only please)
